As one of the endorsors to the book said, this book is a real "tour de force".
I purchased the book as I had previously purchased books by this author which were always very easy to read and understand, yet definitive, and I hadn't found a tax text which covered wealth management in a practical yet rigorous manner. The numerous practical examples littered throughout the text are excellent and put the theory into a practical perspective.
Inheritance and capital gains tax are each covered in great detail and I particularly liked the chapters which looked at the tax treatment of onshore and offshore trusts.
Some of my clients are non-UK domiciled and the book provides a splendid explanantion of the complex impact of the Finance Act 2008.
Any financial adviser or general tax practitioner or student of finance/tax is unlikely to find a better text on the tax issues of wealth management planning.

For anyone involved in providing wealth mangement advice to clients this book is a must, although in view of its approach the book is also eminently suitable for students of taxation.
Despite the complexity of taxation the approach of the author makes the topics covered readily understandable, posssibly because of the numerous practical examples provided throughout the book.
What is surprising is the range of topics covered; i found the explanation of the different types of property ownership particularly helpful as was the discussion on trusts and their tax treatment.
The book is completely up to date and is to be kept so by the use of the accompanying website.
All in all an excellent book which given the price of most tax text books also represents excellent value for money.

Having worked in the banking sector, dealing with wealthy private clients for the last seventeen years, I have always found the area of taxation particularly tricky especially in relation to non-UK domiciliaries. Tax is a vast subject requiring specialist knowledge and not one it is advisable to dip into without a firm grasp. It is however, almost impossible to be involved in the private client arena without at least a basic understanding of the topic and Finney's book makes this very complicated area a lot easier for the layperson.
Most tax books either tend to be too simplified or far too complicated for anyone working in finance and needing an understanding of UK taxation, but ths book with its numerous examples and uncomplicated language does a very good job of giving the reader a thorough understanding.
Particular emphasis is on the substantial rule changes introduced in 2008 and I would highly recommend the book to anyone who has dealings with the financial affairs of foreigners residing in the UK, or wishes to get to grips with taxation as it relates to the individual.
